Melasma

Physicians Laser and Dermatology Institute doctors expertly use pigment-specific lasers to treat melasma, a patchy discoloration on the face usually afflicting women. PLDI physicians select from multiple laser systems to improve these dark skin discolorations on sun-exposed areas. By decreasing the visibility of these patches, these treatments can help patients feel better about their appearance.

The brown, tan, or blue-gray patches of melasma usually occur in women and men aged 20 to 60.  Pregnancy, birth control pills, and hormone therapy are factors that are thought to trigger melasma; sun exposure invariably worsens the condition.
